Message from the Superintendent - Important Reminder and Upcoming Change

Dear Parents,

We have had a fantastic start to the school year! After visiting our schools over the past two weeks, I took note of the excitement and optimism in our staff, students, and families. I’m honored to work alongside you as we ensure Vail is a place, “Where Education Is a Community Effort.”

Please be sure to read to the end below for an important upcoming change and information needed to ensure we can easily contact parents with updates, events at your children’s schools, and emergencies.

Reminder - No School Monday, July 29, 2024

We want to remind our families that there is no school for students this Monday. All of our staff will be receiving professional development at our annual All Staff Event on Monday. We look forward to seeing students again on Tuesday.

Emergency Communication Testing Date Change

We will be conducting our first test of our emergency systems for this school year on Thursday, August 15, 2024. This is a change from our original date of August 1, 2024.

We still have a significant portion of families of returning students who have not yet completed their returning student registration. We would like to encourage families who have not done so yet to complete their returning student registration within the next week so that when we run our test on August 15th, all contact information will be accurate.

Please note that we have been using our communication systems, and they are fully operational. We are conducting this test to ensure all contact information in PowerSchool is accurate.

In the event of an emergency, the information currently in PowerSchool is the information that will be used to communicate with families.

If you have your cell phone number and email address in PowerSchool, you should receive BOTH a text and an email of the emergency test of the VUSD Emergency System. If you do not receive a message on August 15th, please contact your child’s school on August 16th to ensure your information is accurate in PowerSchool.

Please see below for instructions on how to complete returning student registration. New families completed this upon registration with us.

Returning Families - Online Registration

Please complete your child’s Returning Student Online Registration within the next week. You will use the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access the Returning Student Registration.

How do I get started?

Select the student you wish to register along the top tabs. (Please fill out the form for each of your children. PowerSchool will give you the option to copy the information for each of your children once you have filled it out for your first child.)
Select the Returning Annual Registration 24-25 icon on the left side for the current school year.
Agree to the terms and conditions.
Click Begin Forms.
Please carefully ensure all information is accurate.

Also, when you are in the Parent Portal, please click on the SchoolCare icon on the left to update your child's health information.

Just as a reminder, per A.R.S. 15-802 parents/guardians are also required to reaffirm Arizona residency during the annual student registration. Thank you for carefully completing this important step of returning student registration.
